Firebacks have a long history in Europe, longer than chimney caps. If you looked into a fireplace in Ireland you would find a fireback. They still use their fireplaces for heat and cooking. The "Heat Reflector/Shield" just uses modern materials like 304-alloy stainless steel, to give longevity, light weight, and an attractive appearance. In an unprotected masonry fireback, heat is absorbed into the masonry brick which causes the bricks to crack and the mortar to breakdown, leading to expensive repairs.
Fireplaces with "Heat Reflector/Shield" protecting them will be exposed to 1/3 less heat. Additional heat is radiated into the room where it should be, and damage to the fireplace is significantly reduced or stopped. Made from heavy-duty 14 gauge 304 stainless steel for long life.
